The Yashinon DS-M 50mm f/1.7 was a high-quality standard lens produced by Yashica primarily for the M42 screw mount system, often bundled with their TL Electro X or similar SLR bodies in the late 1960s / early 1970s. The ‘DS-M’ designation usually indicates M42 mount with multicoating and an auto/manual diaphragm switch. It was well-regarded for its sharpness and build quality, offering performance close to competitor lenses like the Takumar 50mm f/1.4 but often at a lower price point. The f/1.7 aperture provided good low-light capability.
