The Yashica ML 50mm f/1.9 was a standard prime lens for the Contax/Yashica (C/Y) bayonet mount system. The ‘ML’ designation indicates multicoating, representing Yashica’s own line of lenses for the system, positioned as more affordable alternatives to the Carl Zeiss offerings. While not having the Zeiss prestige, the ML lenses were generally well-made and optically competent. The 50mm f/1.9 was a common kit lens, offering a slightly slower but more compact option compared to the f/1.7 or f/1.4 versions, delivering good sharpness and value.
